Meet error "Windows update could not be installed because of error 2149842967" when installing hotfix KB2553549
Hello Sir, I want to install hotfix KB2553549 on my server (Platform:Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard). When installing fix, it pops out a window shows the update is not applicable to my computer. And I check event viewer, the error message is ""Windows update could not be installed because of error 2149842967". I've checked there is no installed updates on my server. May I inquire is there any other issues may cause this problem? Thanks a lot for your help~

Hello, 2149842967 is 0x80240017 in hexadecimal. According to Windows Update Agent Result Codes, it indicates that this hotfix is not applicable to your server. You also mentioned that there is no update installed on your server. Can you please run Windows Update to check if Windows Update is functioning properly? Hello, Thanks for your response. This server cannot run Windows Update since it only connects to the private network in our company. Therefore, it never ran Windows update since it moved into our company. Is this possible the cause of why I cannot install hotfix? Thanks a lot for your kindly help~

Try installing any other standalone update and see if that works. Also, make sure Windows Update service is running and run updates from elevated cmd (run as administrator) Try resetting Windows Update components and check if that helps.
